At last the time has come: on
their way to the fair grounds
of the R+T 2009 visitors to
the Neue Messe Stuttgart are
meant to feel like Gulliver in
the land of the giants. This is
because they go past an XXL-
size terrace: a huge awning
provides shade to outsize gar-
den furniture.
If the awning is extended to the
size 15 x 9 m, it is a contender
for an entry in the Guinness
Book of Records. The idea and
configuration of the record
awning systemwas the respon-
sibilityofKleffmannPublishing
in Bochum (Germany), while
manufacturers from the roller
shutter,door andsunprotection
industries financed its compo-
nents and construction. As a
highpoint of the initiative,com-
pany sponsorship sums anddo-
nations will be handed over to
three chosen institutions.
The handover of the donations
to the UNESCO special ambas-
sador Dr UteOhoven,Professor
Dr Dieter Jauch, Director of the
Zoological-Botanical Gardens
Wilhelma in Stuttgart and Dr
Michael Kienzle fromtheGeiß-
straße 7 Institute in Stuttgart
will take place on the fair pi-
azza of the Stuttgart State Fair.
In addition, school classes that
have taken part in a painting
competition will get free ad-
mission to the Wilhelma – the
best participating class of first-
year primary pupils will get
their admission tickets at the
donation handover and then
follow in Gulliver’s footsteps.

Gestern wurde die Messe
für uns richtig gut. Heute
und morgen rechne ich mit
den meisten Besuchern
aus Polen. Wir freuen uns,
dass wir hier das sehen
können, was während der
BUDMA (größte polnische
Baumesse, d. Red.) kaum zu
sehen war, nämlich Außen-
beschattungen.
R+T live ganisatorische und logistische
Leistung. Es mussten auf dem
Stand zwei Küchen aufgebaut
werden. Eine geschlossene, in
denen die Gerichte gekocht
werdenund eine offene, in der
dann die Speisen vor den Au-
gen der Besucher angerichtet
werden. Zwei Kühl-Anhänger
halten die benötigten Lebens-
mittel vor – alleinanTafelspitz
wurden insgesamt 3000 Stück
vorgehalten.
Halle 5, Stand A51
Martin Wastl is a passionate
restaurant owner. In Sulzbach,
in south-western Bavaria, he
runs his pub “Zum Tavern-
wirt”. However, at the moment
the pub is closed, since the
entire team of the Tavernwirt
is in action at the R+T. At the
Roma stand Wastl has organ-
ised an open kitchen, at which
stand visitors are served with
culinary specialities – from
Bavarian white sausages to
‘Tafelspitz’ (tri-tip boiled in
vegetable broth with horse-
radish).
What sounds so simple is in
fact a great organisational
and logistical feat. Two kitch-
ens needed to be built on the
stand.
One closed, in which the dish-
es are cooked and the other,
in which the food is then
served before the eyes of the
visitors. Two refrigerator trail-
ers provide the food needed –
3,000 Tafelspitz cuts alone are
in readiness.
Hall 5, Stand A51
Yesterday the fair was really
good for us. Today and to-
morrow I am expecting the
largest influx of Polish visi-
tors. We are delighted that
we can see here what was
scarcely visible at BUDMA
(the biggest Polish building
fair, Ed.), that is to say, ex-
ternal shade products.
