Sie halten das letzte LIFTjournal dieses
Jahres in den Händen – es ist ein Heft
der Superlative geworden: Von Aufzü-
gen für Autos in Apartmenthochhäu-
sern können Sie da lesen (Seite 8), von
schnellemTransport großer Menschen-
mengen in Megacities (Seite 21) und
von Aufzügen, die mit über 70 Stun-
denkilometern in den Himmel sausen
(Seite 42). Der technische Fortschritt im
21. Jahrhundert macht all das möglich.
Vielleicht aber kann die Adventszeit
dazu dienen, einmal darüber nach-
zudenken, ob das Kleine, Langsame,
Bescheidene auch Beachtung verdient
und das Leben bereichern kann. Wenn
Sie denn Zeit haben – gerade vor
Weihnachten laufen ja viele Geschäfte
auf Hochtouren, dazu kommen viele
Feiern, manch einer ist nun erst Recht
außer Atem.
Für Besinnung, zu der das Christen-
tum in der Vorweihnachtszeit aufruft,
braucht unser ständiger Laufschritt
aber einmal Pause. Und gerade dazu
kann die Hochtechnologie, die uns ein
Schneller, Weiter, Höher ermöglicht,
einen Beitrag leisten. Wer abends ent-
spannt auf dem Sofa sitzen möchte,
muss schnell nach Hause gekommen
sein, wer erst kurz vor einem Meeting
eintreffen möchte, muss sicher sein,
dass er nicht eineViertelstunde auf den
Aufzug warten muss, wer sein Arbeits­
pensum in angemessener Zeit erledigen
möchte, braucht schnelles Internet.
Sie, die Sie dieses Magazin lesen, kön-
nen da einen wichtigen Beitrag leisten.
Sie können dafür sorgen, dass Not-
wendiges schnell und sicher vonstatten
geht, so dass noch Zeit für Muße bleibt.

You are holding the final LIFTjournal of this
year – it has turned into an issue of superla-
tives: you can read about lifts for cars in
blocks of flats (page 8), fast transport of large
numbers of people in mega-cities (page
23) and lifts that rocket upwards at over 70
km/h (page 42). The technical progress of
the twenty-first century has made all this
possible.
But perhaps the period of Advent can also
serve to reflect on whether the small, slow
or modest also deserve consideration and
can make life better. If you have time – after
all, many businesses are running at full speed
before Christmas in particular, apart from all
the celebrations. Many people are simply
out of breath.
But our constant hectic activity needs a
break for the contemplation Christianity
calls for in the run-up to Christmas. And this
is precisely where the high technology that
makes faster, further, higher possible can
make a contribution. Anyone who wants to
relax on the couch in the evening has to get
home quickly first, anyone who wants to ar-
rive shortly before a meeting has to be sure
that they will not have to wait for the lift for a
quarter of an hour, anyone who wants to get
their work done within an appropriate time
needs a fast Internet connection.
