LEIA, the UK trade association and advisory body for the lift and escalator industry, has appointed Alastair Stannah, Managing Director of Stannah Lifts as its new President and Paul Turner, Techni- cal Director of Schindler as its new Vice President. Alastair Stannah has been with the Stannah fami- ly business for more than 20 years. He currently heads up their new lift and service business in the UK and has served as a member of the LEIA Board for 12 years. Alastair has commented on his appointment saying “I look forward to working with Nick Mel- lor and his team. The changes that Brexit has brought to the industry in terms of new product certification requirements are going to be a major challenge in 2021, combined with the ongoing im- pact of the pandemic on how we work in support of our customers.” Paul Turner has worked in the lift and es- calator industry for over 20 years, working for both large lift companies and subcontractor businesses. He is Technical Director for Schindler UK and Ireland and a member of the Schindler UK and Ireland Board of Management. ⇤ René Hermann has been a key member of the CEN TC10 WG1 – “Lifts and service lifts” working group for many years and this year also became its chairman. This working group is responsible for the most important lift standards, such as EN 81-20, EN 81-50 and EN 81-28. Currently, the main task of the working group is revising ISO 8100 1 and 2, which form the basis for EN 81-20 and 50. These are to be published as EN ISO 8100-1 und 2 “This project is an en- ormous challenge, since both completely new requirements, such as new traction equipment or vertical sliding doors are being taken into account, while the amended legal and qualitative requirements of the EU Commission on harmo- nised standards also have to be met,” explained Hermann. Aligning the European requirements with the global requirements of the ISO members meant breaking new ground for WG 1 and will “cause us some headaches.” As a qualified Swiss electrical engineer and graduate of ETH Zurich, Rene Hermann has been working in research and development in the lift industry for Schindler Aufzüge AG for 36 years. He is a member of the board of management of the European Lift Association ELA and is chair- man of the Technical Committee of the Swiss Lift Association VSA. ⇤ TK Elevator hat neuen COO TK Elevator with new COO Mit Wirkung zum 1.
